NEW YORK — Donald Trump said Tuesday he is confident his party’s nominee for president will be blocked in Florida, where the Republican National Committee is holding a nominating convention next week.
The New York businessman and Republican National Convention committee chair said he’s hopeful Florida will be a “tremendous” win for his party in the Nov. 8 presidential election.
Trump was asked whether he thinks the Florida race is close, and he responded, “Yes, it’s close, yeah.
And it’s going to be a very close election.”
He continued: “I think it’s a great thing for the Republican Party to have the best candidate in the country, because I think that’s what this country needs, is a great person.”
Florida is a key swing state for Trump.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that Florida’s electorate leans Republican by nearly a 3-1 margin.
